Simple Things

I collect the little things
A smile
A nod
A little wink
A friendly hug
A helping hand
A thought that makes me blink
I collect the little things
A frown
A scowl
A single tear
A cry unheard
An angry word
A thought that causes  fear
So today I must remember
As I make my mark
To start a raging fire
Only takes a spark

For today's project I used an index card, and a marker.

Have you ever been sailing through your day, taking in the sights, enjoying the wind in your hair and bam someone cuts you off, or says something relatively insignificant and you spiral down, down, down.

Of course, the opposite is also true.  You can be having one of those days where absolutely nothing is going right.  You stub your toe getting out of bed. You brush your teeth with fixodent. You discover you are out of sugar for your coffee. Or worse, you are out of coffee.  You get in the car and discover you are almost out of gas. You get to the pump and the price jumped ten cents a gallon over night.  You grab your debit card and it falls on the ground, under the car, just out of your reach.  You retrieve your card.  Pump your gas.  And head inside to get your cup of coffee.  On your way to the counter the hot coffee sloshes onto your hand.

When you reach the counter, the clerk hands you a paper towel, smiles and says "I hope your day gets better".  In that moment, your struggle has been validated, and someone has reached out with kindness and offered you a little bit of sunshine.

Today I hope to be more aware of the people around me.  I hope to offer them the little things that will make their day a little brighter, a little calmer, a little warmer.  A little love just may change the world.
