Through the eyes of a child
The world is a happy place
Each day is an adventure
The sun shines bright
The sky is bright blue
Through the eyes of a child
Water is a reason to play
Dad's shoes are a conquest
Mom's purse is a treasure chest
Grandma's house is an amusement park
Through the eyes of a child
Love is warm pajamas
Love is a full tummy
Love is a shoulder to cry on
Love is the smile on mom and dad's face
Through the eyes of a child
Love is playing with an aunt's clothes
Love is an uncle helping build a fort
Love is grandpa getting donuts
Love is feeling safe in grandma's arms
May my heart be as a child's
May I see love in the little things
For today's project I used contruction paper, a glue stick and a marker. I also enlisted the help of my 17 month old granddaughter, Alexandra (pictured above). Although the finished project may never make it into an art museum, it is one of my favorite pieces.
The joy of creating something without set guidelines or preconcieved ideas is very liberating. Tearing paper with Alex, watching her throw the pieces in the air and listening to her giggle with glee touches my heart. Watching her chose each piece of paper and placing it on the paper was a joy. And though I had to wrestle the marker out of her hands, I had a heart warming day. The best part of my day came after our project was finished and everything put away. We sat on the couch with picture in hand while she pointed at different parts of the picture and explained its significance. And although I didn't understand her words, I knew that she was thanking me for teaching her about art. With love overflowing I kissed her head and hugged her tight.
