Promise
Declaration
Assurance
Pledge
Covenant
Expectation
Potential
I am a broken promise
But a promise just the same
Fewer expectations
But potential still remains
I am a broken promise
For I have made a pledge
I have less assurance
And I'm standing on the ledge
I am a broken promise
A declaration I will make
To take a stand and heal my wounds
For there's so much at stake
A crumbling world
Increasing fears
Loss of hope
And children's tears
A crumbling world
In despair
Desperately seeking
Someone who cares
I am a broken promise
But a promise just the same
I enter into a covenant
To jump back in the game
Promise. A powerful word. At least it should be powerful. Unfortunately it has been thrown around without the contemplation or conviction that it deserves. Think about it. Have you made a promise to a friend, a child, a partner, a parent, a sibling, a coworker, a boss? Did you keep the promise? Or did you spend more energy coming up with a pliable excuse? And we wonder why our world is full of doubt.
When we break a promise, we don't think about all the ramifications. We don't consider the harm it causes the other person. And we don't realize that damage it does to our own heart and soul.
Consider this. You make a promise to a young child. You break the promise. You have damaged the promise within that child. If we want to be our very best. If we want to reach our full potential. If we want those around us to make a difference. If we want our children to reach the stars. Then perhaps we should learn the value of a promise.
Today is full of promise. What promise will you make?
